Since 3 century BC, some form of soccer
1823 – William Webb Ellis, student at the Rugby School in Rugby, England, picked up the “football” 1874 – First game in US - Harvard vs McGill 1880 – Transition-Rugby to American football 1900 – Rugby’s first Olympics (again 1908) 1906 – Forward pass intro to Am. football 1920 – Olympic Gold; US 8, France 0 1924 – Olympic Gold; US 17, France 3 1976 – USA fields first National team 2014 – VBHSR joins Rugby Va 2016 – Rugby 7’s into Olympics |
Virginia Beach High School Rugby competes in several matches against surrounding cities such as Hampton, Norfolk, and Richmond. As a team, we also attend many tournaments and clinics in order to better our understanding and play of the game.

Head Coach Mike Starling and Assistant Head Coach Clayton support a strong work ethic having served with the Marines. " You don't play Rugby to get fit, You get fit to play Rugby" - Coach Starling. Alumni Zander Smith, John Mason, and Brandon Pelanco assist with training and skill development during their free time. Rugby father Sean Conley assists with his acquired knowledge of the fine points of the sport.
